fish and shellfish.
Artico makes use of engineer and
designer that offer their thirty-year
experience in the sector to build
professional equipments according
to customer's demand giving special

maintnance's costs and energy

With this philosophy were born
our Aquariums Professional
series.
Our Professional Aquariums are been
designed and built with the intent to make
ordinary maintenance's service plainer and
faster; that maintenances can be executed
by the user without the necessity of
technician's support, making management
cheaper.
In order to make this possible, modern
plant design techniques are been used,
that make our PROFESSIONAL
Aquariums more functionals.
The main points which characterize our
PROFESSIONAL Aquariums are :
- Protein Skimmer;
- Percolation Biological filter
- UV-C rays Sterilizer
- The Overflow Column with double intake
As is well known the Aquarium functioning
is closely bound from the nitrogen cycle's
rules: the discard's substance excreted
from animals, as well as of slags, are
composed of big protein molecule
(albumins), which shortly give rise to toxic
ammonia's avoiding.
The biological filter has the function to
transform the ammonia first into nitrite,
which is toxic too, and then into nitrate
which is more less toxic.
The choice to use a protein skimmer
on our PROFESSIONAL Aquarium is
made from the consideration that this
Professional Equipment, with simple
functioning and easy and fast
maintenance, is able to remove
from water the organics compounds,
detracting them from the natural
nitrogen cycle; in practice the protein
skimmer allows the elimination of the
most of biodegradable substances,
even before they can give rise to the
budding of ammonia.
The Percolation Biological Filter
We premise that the oxygen is the
main element for the action of
nitrificant bacteria and that, as is well
known, the air is composed for 21%
of oxygen, which is a very higher
quantity than that the dissolved
oxygen in water, and that the oxygen
is dissolved in water through the side
in touch with the air.
The Percolation Biological Filter is
composed by a bin overfilled with
plastic elements on the surfaces of
which, installed from the bacteria,
the water to purify flowes.
The Percolation Filter isn't immersed
in water. But the water flowes on
the plastic elements in touch with the
air, enriching of oxygen, increasing
the bacterial action, and, consequently,
the performance of filter.
The Biological Filter is self-cleaning
and is free of maintenance.
The UV-C Rays Sterilizer
We have decided to furnish our
PROFESSIONAL aquariums with
a UV-C rays sterilizer to reduce the
pathogenic bacterial action, which
removes the oxygen from water and
causes the roiling.
The result obtained is: crystalline
water and more healthy environment.
The Overflow Column with
double Intake
The Overflow column is the point in
which the water is drawn from the
aquarium, to be send to the percolation.
It is built so that the 70-80% of water
is intaken from the water bed, where
the heavier dirt settles, and the
remaining 20-30% is drawn from the
surface, to maintain even the water's
surface free of that coats and skims,
generated from an excess of organic
substances which are dissolved in
the water, that prevent from the
gaseous exchange.
The new animals introduced into the
aquarium ( in our case 'decapoda
lobster' ) generally they have suffered
a more or less far transport. When
they are introduced in water again,
our lobsters excrete a great deal of
organic substance which dissolves
itself in water an that, if it isn't
removed, causes quickly the
deterioration of aquarium's
environment.
In our PROFESSIONAL Aquariums
this organic substance is rapidly
captured from the overflow column
with double aspiration and is sended
to filtering system, here the protein
skimmer will provide to remove it
concentrating it into the plastic glass
from which ca be permanently
eliminated. After this first and
important treatment, the water, s
uch impoverished of organic
substance of discard, is submitted to
the biological filter's action which is
considerably lightened in its work.
Generally the aquariums destinated
to the lobster's maintenance, are
equipped only with biological filter
which has an inconstant
productivity caused from the
progressive blockage and from the
formation of preferential canals
which prevent the water from the
percolation of filter in uniform
manner; this kind of filter has also
a laborious maintenance for the
cleaning, which involves the
emptying and the substitution
and/or the filtering materials wash,
with consequents too high costs
of involved technicians. These
Aquariums have a very slow
response time for the load variations.
Instead, in our PROFESSIONAL
Aquariums :
- The Overflow Column with double
intake and especially the protein
skimmer having a very fast response
time for the load variations of animals,
make themselves particurarly proper to
an employment where these conditions
occur.
- The percolation filter (dry-wet), having
at its disposal a higher and better
usable quantity of oxygen available
for bacteria for their oxidation function
for organic substance of discard,
guarantees a very higher performance
than classic biological filter; also the
percolation filter is self-cleaning and is
free of maintenance, avoiding the
